An exploratory project on product design and development. Launched as a crowdfunding campaign on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo in 2014.
This project involves following practices:
Niche market researching, Planning, Brainstorming, Copyright acquiring, Sketching, 3D Modeling, Prototyping, Budgeting, Campaigning, Manufacture outsourcing, Package design, Marketing, Retail store display practice, User follow-up.
Package design #1: 3D Print Case
The idea of having a 3D Print Case is to offer a premium package option for the customers, as a memento. The 3D printed case was my first 3d printed design at the university.
Product Prototyping
The very first prototype was handcrafted from a piece of steel in the Industrial Design Workshop at the university. The second prototype was laser-cut in aluminum based on the design of prototype #1. The final product was laser-cut in aluminum manufactured in China.
Package design #2: Mass Production Package
The design of this packaging is not only designed as a package that packs the product, but also can be used as a display window for the product. The Prototype was made by cardstock paper.
Package Prototyping
The first package was prototyped with standard cardboard package box, with packing foam, foam peanut, and a label sticker. The final commercialized package design would be made in card stock packaging box.
